Our Mission
Outdoor Recreation Opportunities strives to provide integrated outdoor recreation opportunities to individuals regardless of ability, age, gender, or economic situation through education, training, and programming. Outdoor Recreation Opportunities believes that all people have the ability to participate in adventurous recreational experiences.
Purpose
This organization has been developed with the focus on providing the education, training, and programming necessary to encourage integrated outdoor recreation for those individuals who may have had difficulty accessing these opportunities due to their disability, age, gender, or ability to pay. The initial focus of the organization is on canoeing and kayaking opportunities for people who have disabilities.
Actions
- Support Adaptive Paddling Workshops. These 4 day workshops focus is on training canoeing and kayaking instructors, program providers, rehabilitation specialists, and outfitters on the requirements and techniques for integrating people with disabilities into their programs.
- Provide one to one information to paddlers or would-be paddlers who have disabilities to suggest adaptations could work best for them.
- Outreach to canoe and kayak manufacturers, equipment suppliers, outfitters and guiding organizations, supplying them with information and serving as a clearing house to answer their questions concerning the integration of people with disabilities and their company’s products, facilities, programs and outreach.
- Work with publishers to provide up to date information on canoeing and kayaking for persons with disabilities.
